Djaaka Djaaka has impressed not only the Mozambican audience with their fabulous live performance but also audience in Europe , South Africa, Mauritius etc. Djaaka is a true live band, skilled musician and good dancer all dresses up in real “African outfit’s very very light clothing. The group were founded in Beira in 2001 by dancers and musician from the big traditional music and dance company ”Companhia de música e dança tradicional da Beira”. They immediately won the young musicians festival “Music cross roads” and were nominated to participle in the regional festival the same year. They won several prize, one were a visit to the ethnic music in Sweden “Fallun”. Their music reflects traditions from the central part of Mozambique and the specific marimba from that area called “Timbila” is heard on many of their songs. Mbole Mbole na Yona is a CD record in Denmark during a tour in 2002, its all record live in the studio with the assistant of Danish brass section, a trompet, a sax and a trombone. And realese 2004,at the moment they are recording a new album in africa. Their songs comments current situation of poverty, social disaster and the growing aids epidemy in Africa, nevertheless the music has the warm, vibrant and thoroughly p[polyrhythmic feeling that you find in lot of the African music styles. Djaaka plays contemporary music with a strong traditional touch. Djaaka sings in a dialect called Massena, but its not far from dialects like BEMBA and Njanja in Zambia. Djaaka was also invited to take part in Festivals in Reunion Island, Mauritius, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Italy and United Kingdom. They won the best band award three times at TOP-Ngoma held by Radio Moçambique.
